i love harry potter

so...we went to see the new harry potter movie yesterday. i loved it! has anyone out there seen it? what did you think?

i remember when i first discovered harry potter...i was sleeping over at my cousin's house and i needed something to read before bed. she is 7 years younger than me and at that time i was in high school so she didn't have tons of books that looked appealing. so...i ended up picking up harry potter; i thought it would help put me to sleep.

i ended up staying up for the entire night reading it. it was such a magical book, i was hooked. i think the first 3 or 4 books had been released at that time so i borrowed the others and loved each one more than the last.

thinking about harry potter makes me very aware that i have a few strange reading habits...now seems like a good time to share them.

1. i like to reread books.
when i read a book for the first time i am very on edge not knowing what happens. however, i like surprises so i am not one of those people who will read the end first. so when i read a new book usually i read it quickly. i enjoy it but i don't really absorb anything. so...i can easily reread a book at least 3 times and sometimes i actually forget the main plot points so it is like i am reading a new book. weird? the harry potter series is one of my favourites to reread. it is so relaxing to me. i don't know why. i just love rereading those books.

2. if a book is part of a series i can't skip around...i need to start at the beginning.
so...if i want to read the 7th harry potter book i need to read 1 through 6 first. i physically cannot just read the 7th book. it feels so wrong. soooo...i have read the first 4 harry potter books so many times. this applies to any book that is part of a series...yikes. i'm crazy.

does anyone else have strange habits, reading or otherwise? please share so i don't feel so nuts!

talk to you soon!

something exciting...

i am in an Ohio newspaper! Columbus Alive. does anyone get it? my moustache headband is in the style section...apparently on the cover of the style section! eeks!
here is the online version...

i would love, love, love it if someone could take a photo of it and send it to me...or even better...send me the paper! i might even send you something awesome in return :)

that's all for now! we are leaving vegas tonight. i will share lots of photos once we are home.

love, elycia

ps. don't forget that i am donating a portion of my sales from my moustache headbands to Prostate Cancer Canada during the month of November...if you are interested :)

Guest Blog - My Girl Thursday

Hello (new) friends.  My name is Thursday and I run a little handmade blog known as My Girl Thursday.  Most of the time I'm writing about crafting, thrifting and baking, but sometimes I like to wander off and things can get a little bit strange (just kidding, that only happens on Twitter).

So, while Elycia is away getting her crazy on in Vegas I thought I'd sneak in the back door and tell you about something sweet.  Something sweet and quite delicious, in fact.

Tis the season for apples folks!  Is there anything better than a perfect apple crisp on a chilly autumn evening?  I think not.

I've made many a crisp in my day but I've never been able to find the perfect one.  This may have changed though.  After Googling "best apple crisp" I found this concoction.  It has thousands of positive reviews, so I thought "What the heck, let's see what happens."

What happens?  Bliss happens, friends.  This, in my opinion, is the closest I have come to apple crisp perfection.

The recipe is simple, the ingredients are minimal and the results are magical.  My best advice?  Step away from the computer and start peeling some apples.  (Sorry I'm being bossy.  There's a lot of sugar in this.  I'm a little jacked up.)

And if you like the card you see above why not stop by my blog to download a copy of your own?  Yours will come blank so you can scribble in your favourite recipe.

Thanks for reading along.  If you stop by the blog please be sure to say hello!

5. whole foods.
i am seriously in love with this store. we have a few in ontario but the main difference is they don't have an amazing beer selection like the ones in the states! we have been going a bit crazy in the one down here...so many of our favourite beers are available! my one major complaint about Ontario is our beer stores/LCBO. they do not carry a good selection. anyways...i love whole foods, the whole thing, not just the beer section.

4. sequin shoes
maybe it's vegas...but i have really been eyeing sequin shoes! i especially love black sequin flats. they are so cute. i don't know if i will break down and get some...we'll see :)

4. this dress
i love the colour and the style so much. it is soooo pretty.

2. chipotle
am i crazy? we need these in canada. i love their bean burritos! ok...so i like a lot of food related things this week, haha. one of my favourite parts about coming to the states is all the yummy food! seriously, everything is so good.

1. cirque du soleil
we saw mystere and KA and they were both amazing! KA was actually beyond amazing. you should definitely check it out if you get a chance!

did everyone have a good week? i hope so!

i will be back shortly with an awesome recipe from My Girl Thursday!

love, elycia
