what i wore :: out and about

:: head to toe ::
headband :: vintage scarf
dress :: handmade by me
brooch :: thrifted
cardigan :: H&M
tights :: c/o We Love Colors
shoes :: F21

This was a casual, "we just got back from Florida and I'm upset that I have to wear warmer clothing" outfit. I seriously can't wait for Spring to get here! Although I do love layers, right now I'm ready for lighter layers.

I made this dress about a year ago and I keep debating on whether to hem it a bit more or make the bottom a bit more narrow so that it doesn't flare out. Any thoughts? I need to add it to my growing pile of "fix me" and "alter me" clothes.

  1. The flare at the bottom is my favourite thing about it! Well that and the colour!

  2. You made that dress... well done! Is it velvet? Goodness red velvet is wonderful & the collar is super sweet. The flare & length look great, but if you shorten it up a bit you could show more of your great legs (even shorten it to where it is sitting in the last jumping image). And I hear you about Spring... we are currently expecting ice rain (you may be as well too). Blah!

  3. I think it would be cute a little shorter. But that opinion is heavily influenced by my current preference for shorter dresses :)

  11. I absolutely love that dress! The fact that you made it makes you even more awesome than I already thought you were. I like it with the flair but I'm really not good about stuff like that.

  13. Adorable as always! As for what to do with the dress I think just a little shorter would look great.

  14. I agree with taking it up a bit. I personally like wearing dresses that are right above the knee.
    But that dress is lovely! I agree, it's well done!

    It makes me sad to see my 'alter me' pile never decrease! There's always so much to do.

  16. I love your dress! I definitely agree that it would look even better if it was taken up until it hit just at the top of your knee. Dresses that are that length help lengthen your legs and make you look taller, which is flattering (most of the time).

  24. I also have one of those 'Oh, I will alter this later' piles that is home to many, many garments. I think you should keep it as is, really. It's adorable.

  29. That A-line is really dramatic. I think it would look super cute hemmed above the knee. That reminds me, I need to start sewing. Blah, reminders.

  30. I see something wrong with that dress - I don't have a matching one! :P

  31. I love the way that your pair colours that I would never even think of pairing! I really like the dress the way that it is, but perhaps it would look better as a shorter length dress with the way that it flares?

  32. I personally LOVE the little flare in your dress. So pretty! You totally remind me of Snow White - who is one of my favorite characters EVER. I'm not sure if it's your sweetness, your cute cropped hair or your dashing dress but eeee!

  33. That dress is so cute and I love the bottom of it. I love longer dresses that flare out. I think it looks fine just the way it is.
    (And I love the color of your tights.)
