do you remember?

do you remember the days before the internet when you had to tape music videos when they came on tv so you could watch them 1000 times? i used to sit by the television, remote in hand, waiting for any videos from my favourite bands to come on. from what i can remember...here are a few of the first videos i taped.

i was never a rap/r&b fan but i liked this song for some reason, haha.

this was my FAVOURITE song in grade 8. i may or may not have thought i was going to marry gavin.

i still love silverchair so much.

hehe, that was fun. did you go crazy taping videos off of the tv when you were younger? or am i the only old lady who remembers the days before the internet was popular?

  1. Oh my god, this makes me feel SO OLD.
I loooved No Diggity. I think that's how I became a Dr. Dre fan, honestly.
And GOT A MACHINE HEEEEEAD, S'BETTER THAN THE REST, GREEN TO RED, MACHINE-A-HEAAAAD. I was totally in love with Gavin Rossdale.

Holy throwback. I also remember recording the radio to make mixed tapes! Ewww why does that make me sound soooo old? I'm only 24. Yikes...

  4. Oh man do I remember!

I remember taping Aqua's 'Barbie Girl' and watching it about a thousand times. And anything by Alanis Morrisette, Our Lady Peace, and Nirvana!

    Those were the days. <3

  5. Such good taste in music, even then! I'm only 23 and remember doing that as well; funny how it makes us sound SO old! I remember I thought I was sooooo ahead of people at my school because I had the Canadian channels and would get into alternative bands that were popular in Canada before the US. lol

  6. Oh man, I didn't record videos (I don't think I had the resources to do so), but I did sit by the radio recording songs! I swear I developed a sixth sense for knowing what song would play next!

  7. Mmm Gavin. Yes. But I think Gwen Stefani is worthy of him so I guess it's ok ;)

  8. I never had cable or any channels that would have had music videos, but I remember watching music videos at my friends house that she had on a tape. I remember seeing that they were widescreen and thinking, where do these originally air? In a theatre? Ha ha. Cause that was the only place I'd ever seen anything widescreen. Even though I probably didn't know it was called widescreen, you know. Ha ha ha. But I really had no idea that there were channels that played these music videos all the time.
I do remember taping songs off the radio onto tapes so I could have them.

  9. Hey My name is Emily and I saw this and had to comment! I love each one of these videos. I miss when MTV was all about the music and an artist strives to make the BEST video possible. I also very much miss music from 1997-2001 ish. I Still have all my old VHS tapes. Lots of concerts and cartoons! Thanks for taking me back!

    XOXO,
    Emily

  12. Still awesome tunes! lol I think I was on the cusp of recording songs on vhs, and the boom of downloading when I was younger. It's insane how quickly things change, and become obsolete. I did enjoy the 90s while I was there, it was a fantastic decade. :D

  13. Ha Ha, glad to know I wasn't the only one recording videos!

So random, because I drove to work listening to some classic Bush!

  14. You know what hurt the most about growing up with technology? I had ALL of the disney films on video... I got rid of the video player because it broke and now I only have a dvd player... and it's SO hard to get hold of some Disney films now :( :( :( x

  15. Hi there. I just found your blog from looking at Dainty Squid. & You seem like an awesome gal!

& Yes yes yes! I totally used to record music videos on vhs too! I know for sure that I had two out of three you listed (I was never really into Silverchair, so..) ... Oh, and in fact, my brother and I were both so obsessed with recording videos, we had tons of tapes and kept a notebook which listed all of the videos we had recorded, in order. haha

  16. Hahaha! I never did that but I do remember taping things from the radio! I specifically remember sitting in my big brother's room waiting for Tainted Love to come on so I could tape it.
Also, oh my gosh, No Diggity!?! You're awesome! :)

  18. Back when MTV actually played music videos, I totally did this! And I watched them CONSTANTLY. Then I went to my room and danced around pretending to be "Don't Speak"-era Gwen Stefani.

Also, my friends and I are all grown and in different parts of the country, but when we all get together we STILL have booty dance party to "No Diggity." Rock on! Awesome post!

  19. My friend once filled an entire tape with music videos (when MTV played them, that is) so I could watch at home because we had no cable. Spice Girls and Hanson, oh my!

  20. LOL! I love all of those songs. I, like The Lilac Rabbit, would tape Hanson and there was some Bush and silverchair in there, too. I probably need to get silverchair's latest CD. I'm a whimp.

  22. I have lots and lots of vhs-tapes full of music videos at my parents' house! Oh the nostalgia! There was this tv program called "Jyrki" in Finland, the finnish version of Muchmusic. They showed a lot of 1,5 hour band specials by muchmusic, those were my favorite! And I taped songs on the radio as well. And I used to listen to Silverchair too :)
