Lampshade Restyle :: A Guest Post Over on One Sheepish Girl

While Meredith is off enjoying herself in Paris I am filling in for her with a guest post. What is more appropriate for a guest post on One Sheepish Girl than a yarn covered lampshade? If you are interested hop on over and take a look at how I made my lampshade a little prettier.

what's in my bag :: purse

It has been a really long time since I have shared what is in my bag. That's probably because my bag is usually filled with receipts and extra Subway napkins for nose blowing emergencies. The napkins are for nose blowing, not the receipts. I thought I better clear that up.

Today I thought I would share what I typically carry in my purse and soon I will show you what has been in my camera bag recently.
1. The purse itself :: I get a lot of questions about where I got this purse and people are always disappointed when I tell them it was thrifted. The colour is one of my favourites and it is the perfect size for everyday use.

2. Headphones :: These live in my purse just in case I find myself in need of music while I'm on a walk.

3. Bottle opener :: You never know when you might need a bottle opener. I'm pretty sure Ivan recently snuck this into my purse.

4. iPhone with my fancy new iconemesis Kitty Pattern case :: I am gathering quite the collection of cat cases. Thank you iconemesis for sending me this one! I absolutely love it.

5. Candy :: This candy came from our favourite sushi restaurant Go Tempura. They are so nice there and always tell us to take extra candy.

6. Lip Balm :: Funk Off! makes some of my favourite!

7. Notebook :: Super awesome notebook from a super awesome friend. I start all entries with "Diane..." (kidding)

8. Pen :: This is definitely a pen. Everytime I post a photo of this pen at least one person thinks it is a pregnancy test. Ha!

9. Blog business cards :: For all my blog bidness.

10. Wallet :: Really this is more of a change purse but it holds everything. I made this for myself quite a long time ago and I was too lazy to sew up the bottom so it is held together with a diaper pin from when I was a baby!

11. Bobby pins :: These are for picking locks. Ok, maybe they are just for my hair.

In case you would like a better look at my phone case (because it is totally awesome) here it is...
You really can't beat a cat party, especially one drawn by Gemma Correll. iconemesis was nice enough to send me this one but if you want to pick one up for yourself they are offering a 20% discount with the code ICON220.

Want to show me your bag and what's in it?

home :: baby garden

It has been so fun for me to watch our fruit trees and grapes grow. The grapes are growing at an alarmingly fast rate and seeing the tiny plums and pears grow a little everyday is so neat! I snapped some photos for my own enjoyment but I thought I would share the cute baby fruit with you guys as well.
Another cool thing about the grapes is the little feelers (?) they send out to grab onto things. They grab hold and wrap themselves around with little curly tentacles (?). I know tentacles is not the correct term but I like it.
Our poor plum tree is slightly diseased and I think I need to cut off a ton of parts. I read something that actually recommends cutting the diseased parts off in June and then burning them! That's intense. You can see a bit of the yuckiness in this photo. It is that lighter brown part right in the center of the photo. That will eventually turn black and disgusting. Gross.
These raspberries actually snuck over into our yard from our neighbour's garden. I'm pretty sure they are raspberries and while we do have our own bush planted, I don't think we will be getting any fruit from it this year. I'm pretty excited that these little guys spread into our yard!

In case you can't tell I am so insanely excited about our garden it should be illegal. Watching things grow is the best!

vlog :: baking a crazy cake

Ever wanted to see Chantilly and I join baking forces? Well it happened and we filmed it...here is the proof.
The only problem with making really fun vlogs with blog friends is that it makes me miss them when I watch! I hope you enjoy our first ever baking vlog and definitely let us know if you try making this cake yourself. It is yummy!

what i wore :: sun through the trees

:: head to toe ::
scarf :: thrifted
glasses :: Warby Parker
necklace :: Dapper Toad
sweater :: thrifted
pants :: Winners
shoes :: c/o B.A.I.T.

I wore this the other day when I went to do some filming for a video series I'm working on. I didn't think it was going to be super hot out so I figured it was perfect weather for a sleeveless sweater. Because really, as much as I love this sweater, I don't find too many days when it is appropriate to wear it without a cardigan.

As I was taking these photos I noticed that the sun had started to go down and was coming through the trees at the side of the backyard really nicely! I ran over and set up my tripod to snap a few shots and let me tell you, it is kind of tricky to get a really cool shot like the last one when you are taking it yourself and you can't see what the photo will look like. I really lucked out with this one and I am so excited about it! I really want to try to take more another night.

Today I will be doing a bit of video editing and cat hugging. Sounds good to me!

Happy Friendiversary Kaylah!

As if I needed more proof that Kaylah and I are sometimes freakishly on the same page...I had been planning this super sappy "friendiversary" post for a while and then Kaylah goes and beats me to the punch with one of the sweetest things someone has ever done for me with her "crazy love letter-esque creepfest". That is a direct quote by the way. I prefer "nicest blog post ever" but that's not as funny to read. So, on with my own creepfest.

One year ago today I met one of the coolest ladies ever. Kaylah and I already told you the story of that day in our vlog so I won't bore you with the totally non-boring details of waterslides and giant buckets of water. I will show you this photo though.
Pretty much sums up our day.

It can be really scary meeting someone for the first time and I was very nervous to meet Kaylah. Kaylah's blog was one of my absolute favourites and it kind of blew my mind when we started to become internet friends. A funny little secret...When Kaylah first commented on my blog I told Ivan that "my future best friend commented on my blog today". Called it! (I really hope that doesn't make me sound like a nut!)
The Kaylah that I knew through blog world was definitely awesome but the one I met in person was even better. Kaylah is so full of energy and great ideas, has the best laugh, is extremely thoughtful and best of all just plain fun! It is completely amazing to meet someone with so many shared interests who gets excited about the same strange things that you do and is totally up for having booty shaking practice together in the living room.
I am lucky enough to have a few really great friends that I've stayed in touch with for a long time but I have a very hard time making new friends. I find it difficult to open up and completely be myself with new people. It has been exciting to meet Kaylah and watch our friendship grow from the awkward first moments of 'what should I say?' to the point we are at now where I feel like a can say anything that pops into my head no matter how silly, inappropriate or dorky it might be. And let me tell you, those are the things that pop into my head the most. It is a pretty big deal for me when I feel 100% comfortable around someone and I definitely do around Kaylah. So Kaylah, thank you for letting me be myself...lame jokes included! You is my friend!

Kaylah, you are one of a kind and I am so happy to have met you! I am extremely lucky to have you as a (best) friend. Happy Friendiversary and let's get on finding some tacky best friend jewelry this weekend!

today i am old(er)

So, as I mentioned the other day, today is my birthday and I am off to the Blog Podium conference to see some blog pals and maybe eat some yummy dinner later.
Last year I did a fun little fact/photo series leading up to my 28th birthday called '28 things'. In case you missed it you can check out all the weird and wonderful things that I shared about myself. Sorry there is no '29 things' this year...maybe I will return with a '30 things' next year. Oh yikes, I'll be 30 next year.

I hope everyone has a great day!

wish i wore :: birthday outfit

:: All items from ModCloth ::

My birthday is this Saturday and I will actually be spending it at a blog conference. I will be attending the Blog Podium conference in Toronto this weekend and getting to see some blog friends and meet some new ones. And being really nervous and probably not talking to anyone because I'm too shy. We'll see! Anyways, whether I get my chat on or curl up in a ball in the corner I made a fun little 'wish I wore' outfit. I am completely bonkers over this dress and would probably wear it everyday if I owned it.

Do you have any fun plans for this weekend? Are you going to Blog Podium?

photo an hour :: on a friday

Ok, so the main purpose of taking a photo an hour last Friday was that I wanted to make sure I took photos at Ivan's show. Well...sometimes things don't work out the way you plan and you kind of forget your plan. And then you're really tired because the band goes on way after your old lady bedtime and you don't want to get out of your chair. Not saying that happened because I'm totally not a loser but let's just say the photos stopped at 5 pm.
There were however some really adorable Farva photos so I had to post this anyways.
7 am :: Hanging out with my ladies.
8 am :: Staying hydrated with my second bottle of the day.
9 am :: Someone is having a tough day at the office.
10 am :: I'm itching to get outside.
11 am :: I guess he worked too hard earlier in the day.
12 pm :: These have since been planted (mostly) but here they are waiting!
1 pm :: Baby pears! Our backyard is full of baby fruit at the moment. It is pretty adorable.
After I refueled with some corn, a little corn cob theif appeared. His little paw kills me!
2 pm :: Finially finished spray painting a cute little shelf.
3 pm :: I snuck a photo of Mr. Diva Anakin while he was trying to tell me it is dinner time.
4 pm :: Thumbs up to nail painting. Don't worry, they got fancier. Photo not included.
5 pm :: Just finished farding my face (according to Balderdash that means putting on makeup). I'm ready to go!

So there was my day!

Today I'm off to film a little video for a potential new blog series I'm really excited about. Have a great day everyone!

what i wore :: yes, another twin peaks shirt

:: head to toe ::
glasses :: Warby Parker
necklace :: gift from Astrid
shirt :: Black Market
belt :: thrifted
jeans :: Levi's
shoes :: Levels of Fun Flatform c/o ModCloth

Sometimes you just need to try new things. Like olives or tucking in your shirt. I already like olives so I tried the shirt tucking in thing. It's kind of fun, I didn't mind it. Maybe I'll try it again some day.

In case you missed the title...yes this is another Twin Peaks shirt. And in case you were wondering, yes Ivan has a matching one. I probably should have made him take photos with me but I took these while he was at work and actually just thought of that while I was typing. Well, I just gave you something to look forward to.

Also, my hair is a ton of weird colours at the moment but it looks pretty blonde when I wear it pulled back. Pulling it back is also a really good idea for warm weather so it is an all around win.

Today I am taking the car for an oil change, buying some groceries and maybe squeezing in a bit of front yard gardening. I also feel like making something. Not sure what yet...any suggestions? It is a really beautiful day out and I am getting a lovely cool breeze coming in the window so I am really happy at the moment. What are you up to today?
