our home :: bedroom

Hi!

I feel like it has been a really long time since I have shared any peeks around our home. We had been at a bit of a standstill for awhile but lately I have been trying to get a few more things done. I recently started working on the dresser in our bedroom a bit and realized that I needed a bigger, prettier jewelry box. Last week I stumbled across this pretty pink one while thrifting.
I love it and I love the fact that I can leave it open so I can easily see what I have.
I mentioned a while ago on Instagram that I finally did Rachel's suitcase makeover. I used my new favourite vintage sheet and I love the way it turned out and it is currently sitting on a side table in our room.
Of course I wasn't careful the first time I cut out the fabric for the suitcase so I used my little "oops" to make a background for a photo frame with instax pictures of Ivan and I.
I have a really hard time just randomly choosing colours/decor for rooms in our house. I need to be inspired by something. I'm glad we waited on the bedroom because now that I have found my most favourite vintage fabric ever I am super excited about the colour scheme. I can't just sit down and plan what I want the room to be like. I need to be inspired by something (like a fabric) and then pick up little pieces here and there and search through what I already have to make a room I love. I'm pretty sure I get this quality from my mom. She was also into themes and colours and it totally rubbed off on me.

Are you this way with decorating or do you start with a vision and go from there? Or are you even into decorating?

  1. I LOVE decorating, but it takes me so long to get one room completely done. I am always adding and changing things! I usually start with a wall color and go from there. Of course most of my decor is thrifted! Your house looks so cute! -melisa

  2. Love the suitcase and the frame! Seriously, I think that's such a swell idea. I might have to try that. My fiance and I are in desperate need of some photos around the house.

  3. I don't think the rooms in our house are ever 'done'. I love decorating and every time again I think of something new to change, which inspires other changes, which makes me turn everything around again. Ha. Drives my husband crazy! :-)

    Love the fabric, cute find!

  6. ooh like the jewellry box, my jewellry is such a mess i forget about lots of it.

I dont think i've had the chance to decorate in a while. I think the design just evolves but I dislike deciding everything at once, it has to flow so it feels right.

  9. that fabric is really cute and awesome to design by. I'm the same way...I think most artists are. We all have to be inspired before we can jump into anything :)

  11. For me, I plan things out a lt, so I make like, twenty plans for my bedroom. Then I just narrow it down to the colour scheme and design that seems to work the best for my lifestyle. :)

Your bedroom looks sooo pretty! :D But everything works together really well, so I can't pick a favourite!

  16. I'm having such a hard time choosing a color scheme for my apartment! It's my first time living away from the parents and I want to make it me, but just can't decide on anything. Anyway, you did a great job, that jewelry box is so adorable! I can't wait to find that piece that will make my room come together. ;)

  17. We just moved into our own place and after years of being a live in nanny I am loving it! I usually have a vision and go from there but I am always flexible when sudden inspiration hits. The problem I am having right now is with the living room. I like a clean/cluttered look with bright colors and things that make me smile. We want to display all of his wonderful asian finds in the living room and I have picked out red as my main color but beyond that I am lost. I am clueless as how to make it all clean lined and cohesive and scared that it will look like an old lady's house! Oh well... eventually I will get it.

  19. I like to start with a few inspiration pieces too. I find that if I'm true to my style and am patient enough to wait for the right pieces, everything works together in the end :)

  20. Hey there...
Loving the theme in your room. And the jewellery box is a great find. I am very theme oriented as well. Since I am interested in so many textiles, prints and fabrics, i can be at risk of mish-mashing too much. So... having a colour, fabric or texture is a great way to start and streamline your look. yay.

  22. I've actually just bought my first house, so am suddenly very in to decorating/DIY - currently turning our living room into a mini library, but had no idea how difficult putting up shelves could be! x

  24. I love the idea of putting photos in my jewelry box! I think it would make me use what's inside much more often if I had it open. :)

  25. Your "oops" turned into the best picture frame! Very clever idea!

  26. I usually buy everything for my home second hand, so it´s hard to go out and look for something specific. But most of the time I fall for things with a similar feeling to them, bright, colourful, retro, so I just put it all together and hope it will work. And most of the time it does - by belief is that as long as I love everything, it will look good together. My bedroom is last on my re-decorating list, but I have some things waiting to move in when the walls have been painted. I´m not really a blue/purple kind of girl, but somehow I´m collecting curtains and blankets and pillows in that colour scheme for my bedroom. I don´t know, maybe subconsciously I´ve been drawn to calm, quiet colours for the one room that should be calm and quiet. The rest of my flat isn´t that calm - yellow and orange and green and red...
