2013 :: 365 Project

Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a great night whether you went out or stayed in and that you are already excited about 2013.
I had a really cool Photobooth a day project that I (mostly) completely and wanted to share with you today but I think it is too much for Photoshop to handle (it's a huge gif) so you may never see all of my silly faces from 2012. We'll see, I'm going to patiently look at it one more time before I give up hope. If I do it again next year I think I will use iMovie.
Anyways! As I mentioned before, I have tried and failed numerous 365 projects (attempts 1, 2 & 3) in the past but this is going to be an exciting year so I really want to commit myself to completing one.
My major problem with 365 projects is that I put too much pressure on myself to take really awesome, significant, creative photographs and then I look at the photos I took that day and think they all suck. I end up feeling like all the photos are dumb and there is no point to the project. So I abandon it. But then when I look back on it later, I end up loving every single photo and wishing that I had have kept on going with the project.
I love looking back on random photos from each day, even the ones that I just snapped quickly because I needed a picture. This year I just need to remember that no matter how I feel about the photo I took that day, in the future I will love it no matter what. All of the photos in this post are from previous attempts and I love all of them!
So here I go, I'm starting a 365 project again today with no themes, no rules and no expectations (other than that I will finish). I am so excited!

Do you have any special projects you are doing this year?

♥elycia

PS. Thank you to everyone who left me such nice comments on my 2012 recaps (part 1 & 2). You guys made my day!

  5. I'm going to take a photo of myself everyday to see how my master degree will affect me xD And I will take a photo every day on something, so that I can look every month back I see what I made, and of course at the end of the year :) And will make a crocheted blanket with SuperMario :)

Hope you had a good night!

  6. Good luck with the project! I've always wanted to do a project where I did something everyday for a month, and then did something new the next month: i.e. wrote a bit of a novel each day for a month, or went running each day for a month. I think that way you know you only have to do it for 30 days so it's not so bad!

    love, Lauren.

  7. I am so glad you wrote this post! One of my goals for 2013 is to also start AND finish a 365 project, but I dread quitting too soon because I don't think my photos are good enough, significant, or creative enough. I feel more motivated to keep up with this project after reading that you loved looking back at all the random daily photos you took even though you didn't complete all 365 days. My goal is to improve my photography and have something to look back on by the end of 2013, and I think this 365 project will help me achieve this goal. Thank you for sharing! Feels better to know someone else has the same feeling. By the way, I loved all your previous 365 projects. You take great pictures!

  8. good luck with your project! me and my hubby decided to do a photo-a-day challenge which basically mean that we'll take a picture of two of us, sitting on our sofa, every day :) and then on december 31 2013 i will put all of those photos together to create a lovely animation and see how much we change lol.
take care and have a wonderful 2013!

  10. I have never attempted a 365 day project. I think I may just try it and see what happens. I have tried following some Instagram photo a day challenges, but find I don't always like the topic that they pick daily. I end of just taking a photo of the topic and it looks crappy. I'd rather just photograph something daily that I enjoy or that was special to me. Thanks for the inspiration. Happy New Year. :)

  17. Happy new year elycia!
I'm doing a 365 project for the first time this year. I wanted to pin down some kind of theme so that it felt like a project rather than just anything I could give up and stop without feeling badly about it! My boyfriend gave me a sweet lens for my iPhone for Christmas, so I was inspired to do 365 iPhone photos for 2013. I'm going to do all post in camera and really look forward to pushing myself creatively using a tool not intended to create art. Plus I now have wide angle, macro and fisheye lenses to play with!! If anyone would like to join in (please do!!) I have created the hash tag #365iphone2013 so I can organize my photos when I share them through instagram each day.

  20. I love that picture of the paper heart! I also find it really difficult to commit myself to things but this year, I'm really going to concentrate on my blog and make the best posts I can so I guess that's my new year's ressy :) xx

  21. I'm doing a 365 project too. My aim is to not use auto on my camera, but honestly I will be pleased if I just manage to take any photo each day, even if it is from my phone. Happy New Year, and good luck xo

  22. Sounds challenging and totally rewarding at the same time.
I just want to create and craft more this year than last (which would not take much to show improvement, 2012 sucked on that score for me...)
    Happy New Year,

  24. Good luck with your project! I considered doing another 365 (I did one in 2010 and actually completed it, which I'm surprised about haha), but I decided that I would just focus on blogging and such. I do love 365 projects though, because I love documenting everything and looking back on it. I'm excited to see your pictures throughout the year!

  25. I love that heart photo. Super cute.

Good for you for giving it another go. I like the idea of a photo a day too, but I've never even attempted to make that a goal. I don't know why ONE photo seems so daunting, but for some reason it does. I feel like my life is too boring to make it worth it. Maybe you're right, though. Maybe I would look back on what I thought was boring at the time and think it was fantastic later.

    Good luck!!

  26. GOOD LUCK!!! I'm starting one too and I'm so excited for it!! I only have a normal digital camera so my pictures aren't going to be the greatest but just the fact that I'm going to be doing something everyday & IF I complete it I'm going to be so happy!!

    You can do it!! =)

    Happy New Year!

  27. In 2011 my project was to make a 1" button design for each day. I did it until November, then the holiday craft markets took over my life. I still need to finish the designs for November and December. I feel bad for not finishing, but I know I can complete it in 2013! So, not completing my project makes me not want to start one for 2013, but part of me really wants to! Only I am not sure what to do for my project.

  28. Good luck!
I am an off again, on again type of blogger.
I think it might be because I'm just a teen & definitely I'm really indecisive (of course.)
This year I've decided to do a 365 photography project & like you, I hope I can carry through with this. I really like your style of photography, your photos are very quirky! :)
    Anyway Happy New Year!

  29. I'm in the middle of a 365 photo project, actually! I finish it in June. It's really easy if you don't set rules for yourself other than to do it. lol

Also, I find it easy to keep up with if I do a 365 photo recap for each month, on my blog. That way I have a mini goal to finish, plus a place to see each month's photos all at once. :)

    Have fun!

  30. I too have tried and failed to do a 365 project. I think I lasted maybe four days? Looking back on them they are really lovely photos, and I'm incredibly gutted I didn't carry on with it! Now you've inspired me to get back on the horse. This year is the year I'll complete a 365.

  31. YOU CAN DO IT!
I'll be your official cheerleader. When you need some motivation, call me, I'll come by with my pom poms :)
    Good luck!

  32. I think if you have the same mentality as doing a nanowrimo (just get 'er done-even if you type out pages of crap) than a 365 is doable. Try to take some pressure off yourself-because you'll probably have a couple great photos a week, and take time to experiment. Good luck!
