what i wore :: black, white and blue

:: head to toe ::
glasses :: Warby Parker
cardigan :: H&M
brooch :: c/o Lotta Losten
dress :: thrifted (actually a skirt)
tights :: Walmart
shoes :: c/o B.A.I.T

If you notice any cat hair on my black sweater, don't worry, it's totally intentional. Cat hair on black clothes is all the rage this year in case you haven't heard. If you don't have a cat yourself let me know and I can hook you up with some high quality fur.

I have had this skirt since high school and it is one of my favourite things in my closet. I love that I can wear it as a skirt or turn it into a dress. Usually when I wear it as a dress I add a belt but this time I decided to skip it. I really like this look too.

I am kind of in love with my shoes. Last time I visited Kaylah I admired her white pair of B.A.I.T. shoes. So naturally I had to get all matchy-matchy with a black pair of my own. They make me feel so fancy!

Oh, and one last thing! I took these photos (and some of my other recent outfit photos) at night with some studio lighting that I thrifted. I am so thrilled with the results and I love that it allows me to use the curtains as a backdrop. During the day the light coming in the window makes it really tricky to use them. When I take my photos at night I just aim my studio lights at the ceiling and they light up the room perfectly! Love, love love!

Today I am off to hang out with Andrea! So much fun!

  1. Cutest outfit ever! That dress is darling & I love the colour of your tights. I also reckon it's pretty rad that these photos were taken at night! I never would have guessed until you pointed out that there was no natural light coming in through the curtains. Very cool!

  2. Fab idea wearing the skirt as a dress, I have done this sometimes and it works well. Good outfit and nice Ladyhawke reference too!

  3. The skress... never thought to do that!!! Ok, I didn't see that colour of tights at Walmart... but they did have a great purple pair. Yey for studio lights... the room is full of light & the drapes are an amazing hit of colour. Happy Wednesday.

  6. Adorable! If Fraser wasn't so allergic to cats all my clothes would be hair covered! The other day he told me we should ask his parents for a hypoallergenic cat for our wedding, to which I replied, "great idea - where's the ring?" I am very interested in seeing what your lighting looks like! Any chance you could instagram it so I could see? I'm trying to set up a photography backdrop in my crafts room and needs tips on lights!

  7. Wow! These photos came out amazing! And you took them at night! Well played, girl. I love those shoes, too, and am saving my pennies for them as we speak. :)

  8. I totally understand the cat hair thing! I wear a lot of black and have a cat, so naturally I'm covered at all times. It doesn't seem to matter how many times I go over my clothes with those tape roller things--I still find cat hair everywhere.

  14. AHA! That's what it is...studio lighting! I knew there was something different about them. I think in the last post I said they looked like they belonged in a magazine and they totally do! You so pretty Elycia :)

    Also...the pattern on that skirt/dress is awesome! I love hiking skirts up to wear as dresses too...especially maxi length ones, awesome!

  15. There's cat hair on everything in here! lol 3 cats and 2 dogs=furfest. I try to purposely avoid buying black clothes. I like clothes that blend with the fur. My bf doesn't go by the same rules though, owning 50 band tees that are black or bold dark colours. Really like your 2nd to last photo.

  25. Having your own lights is a great idea! It gives you so much freedom in regard to when you want to click photos as well. I also like the idea of a long skirt worn as a dress, must try it out sometime. :)
