vlog :: dealing with self doubt

Good morning!

Chantilly and I are back to share another vlog with you today. This time we are talking about something that I think most people experience once in a while, self doubt. Chantilly and I filmed this vlog while I was visiting a few weeks ago and later that day Kyla put up this great post talking about a lot of similar things. I think there's something going around on the internet lately! Chantilly and I have definitely both experienced some self doubt related to blogging and in our vlog we talk about possible causes and some ways to try to kick that doubt out of your head!
I've really been trying lately to do extra things that make me happy, eliminate things that bums me out (if possible) and stay really productive. I really love blogging and I want it to be a long relationship. No thank you self doubt...not interested in hanging out.

Have a great Tuesday! I'll be spending some time in the back garden again pulling dandelions and maybe digging up some grass in our raised bed. I am really bad at digging up grass so I don't love that job.

  1. I'm generally really confident in what I do & post, however I have a huge irrational fear of vlogging! It sucks as I would love to do a vlog soon (I've been considering it for a while) however the one & only time I did post a video was a couple of years ago & became a horrible experience.

Basically my best friends at the time thought it would be funny to make an entire parody website of my blog, copied my video word for word & basically just made fun of me. It was immature & they thought it would be a joke but I was ridiculously hurt & lost who I thought were the best friends I'd ever had. Some of the text was really downright mean.

Basically now I have a super irrational fear of vlogging, it's silly, but it's holding me back. Hopefully soon!...soon..

    1. Oh my gosh, that is terrible! I'm so sorry that happened to you. Vlogging can be scary but really fun. Chantilly & I are definietly vlog pushers but do what feels right for you. :)

    3. Aww! I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you! Friends are supposed to love and support you, so those "friends" were not friends at all. You're better off without them. I'm nervous about vlogging too! I know that most people would probably be nice, but that one hater trollish comment would really get to me D:

Anyway, if you decide to do a vlog, let me know, I'd love to watch it and support you! :)

  2. This vlog completely resonates with how i'm feeling at the moment, in fact i'm currently taking a break from blogging altogether and i feel like a weight has been lifted. I think i was putting too much pressure on myself, particularly trying to stick to my thrice-weekly schedule. Presuming I do start blogging again i'll probably concentrate on just doing one post a week and put more love into it. I think you guys are right, I think people can really tell when you're excited about what you are writing. Thank you so much for posting this vlog today, it's made me feel a million times better. You guys rock!

  3. Awesome, amazing vlog ladies. I can't tell you how inspiring and uplifting your video series has been for me. It's the bees knees for real.
I really love blogging, but have been struggling with idea of even calling myself a blogger and 'owning' it because of this crazy irrational fear that I'm not awesome enough or that I don't fit into the community.
I know, I know, this is absolutely ridiculous and silly, because one the amazing things about the blog world is there truly is a space for everyone.
It does feel hard sometimes when you feel you aren't getting the readership you like, but that's all stuff that ebbs and flows and builds and grows down the road and I just have to learn to let go.
This post is a great reminder to let those fears go and just go with it, just gotta relax and be me. Thanks ladies, I really appreciate this series and you guys are just the best.

  4. This vlog series is awesome ladies! Thank you! You are definitely right, it does feel better knowing you both go through periods of self-doubt too. It's so easy to look at other people's blogs and think 'wow, they've got it going on! they are so put together. so many people like them, and say such nice things to them.' And ignore any issues/hardships they might be dealing with, and then turn around and look at your own blog and think, 'why don't I get comments? why do I have so few followers? my blog is silly looking'.

I think ladies are taught at a young age to compare themselves to other ladies, and this is probably the worst habit we can perpetuate.

  5. I find myself frustrated with the lack of followers I have, since I have been blogging for over 5 years now. It's a horrible feeling and it shouldn't matter! It's like some stupid "high school" type of jealously! It's silly really. I hate comparing myself to others and try to just put blinders on to everyone else and just be me. There are so many great blogs out there but honestly I only find time to go to visit a hand full regularly. My blog started out as just interior design related posts and posts of remodeling my home. 5 years later I am now Vegan, a military wife and don't even own a home! Your blog has to change and grow with you, and you just have to hope you keep some of your followers along the way. :) You guys have some great points! Thanks for sharing! It's good to know that we all have bad days. LOL

  7. Love this. And, I agree, whole-heartedly, that sometimes you just have to step away from the blogs if they are making you feel anything but inspired. :) Thanks for this...It's so nice knowing that everyone goes through this. You two rock.

  9. This was so great to watch. It's nice to know i"m not alone when I go thru this. I always ask myself that if I feel that way should be blogging at all? Even if I love it too? But it's good to know that nothing good comes without any kind of trial. Thanks again.

  11. Wow...it's so weird that you guys did this as a blog topic! Myself and a few other bloggers I know have been feeling a lot of self doubt about blogging lately.

  12. I just recently blogged about this and how I have temporarily "broken up" with my Bloglovin. I am still very much in the "where do I fit in" phase of blogging and do not yet have all the confidence I would like as a blogger. I don't see any problem with "disconnecting" when necessary... we do it throughout our lives. If you were struggling with negative body issues would you stare at the pages of Glamour magazine? No, that would only make matters worse. That is how I feel about my blogging right now. I need to focus on me and who I am not what is bringing others success. I am not them... they are not me, therefore I need to look within my heart for the answers not into theirs. Because that is what a blog should be, a reflection of what is within the bloggers heart!

    Great post Loves!

  13. I love that you guys picked this topic, even if it is "waah-waah"- it's real. We do compare ourselves to each other. We do make judgements about how other people are living compared to ourselves, even if we don't know the whole story. That's why I wrote a looooong post that published today, in which I shared everything about me that's not perfect. It's so important to know that we are all human- and we share a common experience. And stats aren't any judge of our personal value, or our value as bloggers.

  14. Great video--the great thing about having international readership is it's always winter somewhere! x

  15. This came just in time. I'm about to start my own blog, I've been stalling for a LONG time, and mostly because of self doubt. I look up to certain blogs, yours included, a lot! and set my own expectations for myself pretty high. I think I will love blogging once I get the hang of it, and I want my blog to be as wonderful as yours, but I also want to find my OWN voice, and not look like a copy cat! I'm currently making lists and have lots of ideas for posts to set myself apart. I'm so glad you and Chantilly did this vlog, it made me feel better to know that even the people I admire the most have their own self doubts. Thanks a lot! I'm more inspired every day!

  18. This vlog was fantastic. I'm so glad you chose to tackle this topic, which is so very relevant for bloggers. I've certainly felt my fair share of self-doubt. As well as than the awesome suggestions you've made, I also like to focus on the things I'm doing well, rather than zeroing in on the areas where I feel like I'm flailing.
