thrift find :: the ones that got away

Oh things I didn't buy, you are so fun to look at and sometimes laugh at.
What: Owl statue
Where: Value Village (Upper James)
Why I loved it: This guy would have looked so good in our Twin Peaks inspired 'Black Lodge' room. He was fairly large and heavy and just generally cool and handsome.
Why I didn't buy it: $10 was more than I wanted to spend on this. I like my thrifted owl statues to be a little cheaper.
Do I wish I bought it: Not for that price. Sorry owl buddy.

What: Vintage dress
Where: Consignment/Vintage store in Guelph
Why I loved it: Are your eyes open? Then you can see why I loved it. It is one of my favourite colour schemes for dresses and the shape was really pretty.
Why I didn't buy it: Well, I found this after I decided to eliminate my clothes buying. Why the heck did I try it on then? Sometimes just trying something on lets me see how it looks and then move on. Also, this dress ended up being a bit too big so that was double confirmation that I shouldn't buy it.
Do I wish I bought it: Half of me does but it is kind of nice just to have this photo to look at.

What: Dancin' Grannies workout video
Where: Junk shop in Erie
Why I loved it: Those Grannies are hot! Seriously, I want to look that good when I'm old. Also, it's hilarious.
Why I didn't buy it: Realistically, will VHS exist when I'm ready for 'Mature Fitness'. Probably not. You will most likely be able to watch workouts straight from your brain.
Do I wish I bought it: As much as I would like to own this, I'm ok with my decision.

What have you left behind lately?

  2. Ditto to Kaylah. Dancing Grannies would have made for an amazing vlog! But you'd have to bend the no buying clothes rule so you could get a monochromatic dance outfit.

  4. Oh! I do that with clothes too, my reasoning is - if I really like something, I try it on to 'prove' it is definitely the wrong size or just fits badly. Works out about 50-50. Probably better to just walk away ;)

    1. Yeah, even if it fits and I love it sometimes trying it on still helps me walk away. At least I got to see what it looked like on and enjoy it for a few minutes.

  5. I've got to agree with everyone else, dancing grannies looked like a win. I'm so disappointed that some of my local charity shops seem to have given up on videos, I always pick some up when I am having a night in.

That owl was freaking awesome too, although I totally agree $10 does seems a little bit steep xo

  10. haha! That Dancing Grannies is fantastic!! And that owl is so cute, but I agree with you, 10$ is a bit steep!!

  11. I'll admit that I probably would have shelled out the $10 for the owl with the big red eyes of doom. I would have hesitated though! I've learned to stay away from the temptation that is Value Village because of the prices, but dang it, do they get some awesome stuff in.

  16. Fun story about Dancin' Grannies: For Christmas a few years back, my best friend Jimmy found me a set of 3 Audrey Hepburn movies on VHS (I only had a VHS player at the time). It was Breakfast At Tiffany's, Funny Face (I think?) and Roman Holiday. I already owned Roman Holiday, and he knew that, so he swapped it out with the VHS of Dancin' Grannies that he'd found at a Goodwill... complete with re-labeling the case! Dancin' Grannies was sandwiched in between Breakfast at Tiffany's and Funny Face. The absurdity of my life is hilarious and awesome.

Long story short: I totally own Dancin' Grannies and you can totally come over and watch it if you want (and find yourself in the bay area).

  17. A few years back my friend and I found a Dancin' Grannies video at a flea market and we totally bought it and worked out to it a couple of times (if you can call that working out). The exercises were hilarious...pretending to play a piano, bounce a basketball, and the grapevine just to name a few. I have no idea where the video is now, but it made us laugh so much!

  18. Ha! I can't believe that video was actually called Dancin' Grannies! That is excellent. I love your idea of making a record of cool stuff that you see bit don't buy. I think I would buy much less if I started doing the same!! Jen x
