No, it's not Anakin. Ivan and I are pleased to present the newest member of our family, little miss yet to be named!
I have been wanting to add a third kitty to the party for so long now but Ivan was not really into the idea (he is what stands between me and crazy cat lady status) so I dropped it. I had mostly given up on another fur baby until this weekend when I saw Ivan fall in love with a sweet little baby Anakin look alike at a pet store in Erie. I really prefer to bring home cats from shelters (Anakin and Farva were both rescues) so please no judgment on buying a pet store kitten. When it's love, it's love!
After camping, Kaylah
, Kevin, Ivan and I made our way to Erie for our usual baked tofu sandwiches, junk shopping and visit to the photobooth. When we made it to the photobooth portion of our journey there was a cleaning man standing in front of it with his big gargabe container so we took a detour to the pet store.
I saw this cute little orange kitty right away and went and stuck my fingers and face up to the cage. She started pawing and meowing and I fell in love. I fall in love with cats pretty easily though so this is not really breaking news. The difference with this little kitten is that Ivan came over and stuck his fingers and face up to the cage and I could totally tell by the look on his face that he loved this kitty too. Ivan is definitely a cat lover (he was before I was) but he is not usually that interested in cats we run into at pet stores. That's how I knew that there was a chance we would be taking this little girl home. That, and when I asked Ivan if we had seen this kitty in Canada would we get her he said, "Mayyybe" in a way that totally means yes because usually Ivan's answer when we talk about another cat is absolutely not.
We walked away to look at the other animals and somewhere in there I had Kaylah look up on her phone the deal with buying animals in the States and taking them into Canada. I always thought it was not an option but apparently it is pretty common and no trouble at all. Well...the rest is pretty obvious. We took this litttle girl out of the cage, played around and finally Ivan said I had to make the final decision which he obviously knew would be yes.
So, that's the story of how we went camping and came home with an American cat. She totally has an accent when she meows. I really didn't think I would ever buy a cat at a pet store, or in America, or get one that looks almost exactly like Anakin but you can't help who you fall in love with.
There is still a bunch of hissing and growling going on over here which stresses me out a lot but I'm hoping that all the kitties will be best friends soon. I will keep everyone updated on our new princess and let you know what the heck we end up naming her. I was so unprepared for this!
OMG I love her she looks like my boy kitty stitch as a baby - I cannot wait to see her make friends with Anakin and Farva xxReplyDelete
Congratulations! She's so gorgeous! I can't wait to hear all about her adventures.ReplyDelete
Oh my goodness, Quarters is the cutest! That first pictures is just precious.ReplyDelete
I'm glad you guys got through the border okay!! :)
Ahaha! I love that you've named her :) I have been calling her quarters, princess, mrs. and a bunch of other things. She is going to be one confused kitty if we don't name her soon! She misses her auntie and uncle I can tell!Delete
This post makes me so sad, I will no longer follow or support someone that calls themselves an animal lover and buys from a pet store. I hope you're happy with your decision to support breeding and the senseless death of animals in shelters. Sickening.ReplyDelete
I'm sorry you feel that way and I understand your concern. Please just remember that I do not judge anyone on their decisions even if I don't agree with them. I would bring home every shelter animal if I could and I feel like I do a lot in my life to prove my "animal lover" status.Delete
I don't think people should be mean about it. You acknowledge the fact that you know a pet store is not the best place to get a cat and you did get your other cats from shelters. I think what we do most of the time and what we try to do in our lives is what is important. She's a beautiful kitten and falling for her would be easy for anyone to do. I'm sure the others will get on well with their new little sister soon.Delete
Attitudes like that are what put people off vegans and prevent positive communication about the reality of our decisions as consumers.Delete
Life is not black and white, as long as we all do as much as we can to support our causes, no one should judge. Elycia OBVIOUSLY cares about supporting shelter animals as clearly stated in her post.
Moving on, what an adorable kitty! I have heard that 95% of ginger cats are male, so I think she is a special one :)
Thank you Celeste. I really appreciate your comment. You made me smile :)Delete
I know many people who see adopting pets from pet stores as another way to "rescue" an innocent animal from a bad situation. You may not feel that way since the money goes to the "wrong" people, but some people choose to make a difference in the life of one animal, regardless of where it came from. It's the same cause supported in a different way. I admire your passion, but not your judgement.Delete

I'm not really a cat person, but what a cutie!! I have to agree with you when its love its love. I also think its really unfair for someone to judge, because you decided to go with the decision you did. Shelter or store bought an animal just wants a home and a family to love it...off my soap box now!ReplyDelete
I love Farva (the black and white, right? I'm a newcomer to your blogworld)- my love, The Orbital Moosh, looks just like Farvster (sorry) but with half a mustache. I'm mourning the little friend who just left us- Boneless (he had no tail)- so I'm VERY happy to see that you have an addition! She needs love AS MUCH as a shelter cat. It's not her fault that her little kitty self ended up at the horrible HORRIBLE pet store. If she HADN'T been there, you'd never have found her- what could she do????ReplyDelete
Welcome! Yes, Farva is the handsome black & white guy. Awww! A half mustache is so cute! I'm sorry about your kitty Boneless, what an adorable name! I agree that it's not a kittens fault if they end up at a pet store. A lot of pet store cats are not from breeders anyways, they can be rescues too. I didn't ask for her story, maybe I should have just so I would know. She is totally not any kind of pure bred anything though! (not that I would judge anyone who got themselves a pure bred cat)Delete
Thank you for your comment!
Congratulations! There must be kitten videos, lots of kitten videos.ReplyDelete
I just wanted to add while some are concerned about your purchase of this kitten, you gave her a new, wonderful home. In my book, sometimes that's all that matters.Delete
Thank you! I agree :) All kitties need good homes!Delete
She's such a cutie! And I know this is probably way too mainstream and adds up to a little too much star wars but since she looks so much like Anakin, why not just go with it and call her Leia ? Anyway, whatever name you pick for her, she'll still be gorgeous !ReplyDelete
We totally talked about that! That was our first idea actually! I really want to name her after someone from a different favourite show/movie of ours though :)Delete
D'aawwww! What a cutie! She's so adorable. I hope all your cats start getting along soon. I'm going to be going through a similar thing with my cat when we move into my friend's apartment -she has a cat as well.ReplyDelete
It is really funny to watch them interact right now but I hope they get over each other soon! Good luck with your kitty adjusting to a new friend!Delete
So awesome, what a cutie, fantastic pictures!ReplyDelete
Oh she is BEAUTIFUL!!! It took our two ages to accept each other but they got there in the end. I've even caught them playing together when they thought that no-one was looking.ReplyDelete
Farva and Anakin started playing pretty quickly but that's because Farva was such a playful little brat and he would always attack Anakin! New kitty has swatted Farva's tail a few times but he is not having it yet!Delete
I knew it! I knew it was going to be a kitty when you mentioned something, that or some other type of animal! My first thought was, what animal did they find on a camping trip that they brought home! Heee! She is SO cute, I love those round eyes. I'm so excited for you. I don't see how anyone can judge you for giving ANY animal a good home, no matter where they came from. All cats and animals need a place to live, where they will be taken care of and loved.ReplyDelete
Question...did the kitty fart in the photobooth?
Yes she sure did!! Ivan thought she was pooping actually but it was just a fart.Delete
Hahahahaha that is hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!Delete
Aw, she's adorable! I can't wait to meet her!ReplyDelete
Ahaha! great suggestion!!!!Delete
That, or Shelley...or not, she's too cute plus...you know what, I'll keep the making out jokes to myself.Delete
It's the opposite in my household. Every week Dan asks if we can get a lady fawn coloured Frenchie that he can name Butters. To which I say, "absolutely not"
Oh my gosh Elycia! She is adorable! Im sure her accent is just lovely! :)ReplyDelete
oh dear, she is soo cute! <3ReplyDelete
a friend of mine can't keep her little cat anymore and searches for a new home for her. she will be staying two weeks in september with me to see if we get along. i'm so excited :)
I hope it works out!!!Delete
OH my goodness she is so adorable!!! :)ReplyDelete
Bah! She is squishable! She's so lucky to have found you, and to be living in a home filled with so much love. Good to know you can bring furr babies home from the States...I pictured you having to cross the boarder with her smuggled in your underwear!ReplyDelete
Oh my gosh, that just gave me the funniest mental image!Delete
Gives new meaning to the term "bush". No? Too far?Delete
what a cutie pie! congrats on your newest little love. :) The first photo is so cute to look at after reading your title...."Introducing.." and she's peeking up like "can I come out yet?" haha, SO cute!ReplyDelete
Oh she is so cute! Congratulations on your new family member!ReplyDelete
And as a side note, I wish the so called "animal lovers" would remember that it isn't the kitty's fault she was in a pet store-- if you want to stop breeding, punishing animals in need of a loving home is NOT the way to do it. If you look in to reputable animal rights groups (i.e. not those groups who profit from the cause), you can find several ways to stop and/or discourage animal breeding without punishing our furry friends in the process-- going after the perpetrators of breeding instead of the animal victims is a good start!
Very well said, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I want to give you a hug!Delete
Oh, congratulations! She is beautiful!! <3ReplyDelete
Congrats on the addition. I know how much joy a new kitten can bring to a household. [And orange ones have sooo much spunk!]ReplyDelete
They really do!!Delete
So cute! My boyfriend and I just moved in together and combined cat families- we have 4 now! The hissing and awkward moments happen sometimes, but I love seeing how their relationship progresses, and the bond between the ones that have always lived together seems stronger too! Best of luck with your new kitten!!ReplyDelete
Oh, so cute! Farva and Anakin are getting a litle mad at each other if they are startled. Poor guys!Delete
Oh the cuteness!! My little Elvis and I send her big kitten-breath kissies from Oz!ReplyDelete
A loving home is a loving home, and every kitten has a story. I don't think anyone has the right to judge you here - 2 of the 3 of your kitties are rescues, which is a hell of a lot more than most people do :)
A funny fact about store vs shelter - we got our dog from out local shelter - the shelter had just repossessed him & his sister through the courts from a pet store, as the pet store had been sending their employees into the shelter to buy all the cute and "pure looking" pups and kittens to sell on for exorbitant prices....
Also, when animals don't sell in stores, they generally get dumped at the pounds and shelters. I am in no way justifying pet stores, but I do believe that every animal deserves a great home no matter what, and this little miss has certainly found one - clever girl!
And namewise.... maybe a Twin Peaks one?!!! Could be amazing!
I will take all the kitten breath kisses I can get! :) Thank you!Delete
Oh wow! That's crazy! I can't believe that! Thank you for sharing.
We have been throwing around a bunch of Twin Peaks names for sure! I think that's what we a leaning towards.
What a cutie! It's actually pretty rare to see a female orange cat, so looks like you hit the jackpot. Such a struggle with the pet stores, I work as a vet tech and am going to vet school in January. It's so hard to see pets come from pet stores when I know there are plenty in shelters, but sometimes seeing the love a "bought" pet gets makes me understand a clients perspective a little bit. Anyhow beating up on blogger certainly won't produce any results, but writing an email or calling your congressman/woman and demanding stricter animal breeding laws and regulations seems like a better bet. JustReplyDelete
Congratulations on your new addition, adding cats to the family is certainly stressful but they'll all get on just great soon!.
Oh cool! I didn't know that! I really appreciate your comment :) Thank you.Delete
That kitty is so cute! ;)ReplyDelete
Ahhhh, she is so cute, and my heart is officially melted! Congrats for your new addition. You should totally give her an American name. Like Sue. Or Peggy. Haha, kidding- of course!ReplyDelete
What a cutie...she looks like peaches and cream! I would lean towards Navi or Midna from Zelda, but I'm sure you have a wonderful list of names swimming and you'll scoop up the right one soon!ReplyDelete
Those photo booth shots are just brilliant :)ReplyDelete
So your household is international now!
Awww! Congrats on the new furbaby! She's precious.ReplyDelete
And I LOVE the pics with her in the photo booth. She looks so shocked in one of them. :)
what a sweet little lady!ReplyDelete
Ehrmagerd she is SO STINKIN' CUTE! I'm totally jelly. I just have one cat, Brie, and I'm always trying to convince Jason to get another one. I had to twist his arm to get Brie because he was not a pet person at all when we got her. Now he's pretty much in love with the cat. I love that she let you take so many photos of her! Gah, dying of cute over here. (I'm done rambling, sorry!)ReplyDelete
She loves having her photo taken I think :) Sometimes she charges the camera and smacks it though and it is so cute! She's really playful!Delete
Congrats on the new family member! I'm so happy for you and Ivan. I keep wanting to add more kittens to my house, but my man keeps saying that 4 is enough :)ReplyDelete
Ivan has said that this is definitely our last cat. Looks like I won't make it to 4! :)Delete
Aw, what a cutie! I'm a big supporter of adoption from shelters, but when it's love, it's love and I'm happy this kitty has got a good home. Congrats on the new addition to the family!ReplyDelete
I feel the same way :) Thank you!Delete
Ah! She is so cute! What an absolute beauty! I'm definitely pro-rescue animals but I'm never going to judge anyone on how they get their pet. When you love an animal it doesn't matter where it comes from. When I was little we ended up buying our dog from a breeder, we couldn't find anything suitable in any of the local shelters (they were all too big and boisterous to live in the city centre with two children under 10). Eventually we gave up and went to see a dog at a breeders house and as soon as we got there my mum decided she was vehemently against buying him, she didn't want to be putting any money in this man's hands. But, me and my little brother made a passionate argument about it not being the dogs fault and we came away with him that day. When it is love, it's love xoReplyDelete
That is such a sweet story, and she is sooooo cute! Congratulations on your new kitty :)ReplyDelete
I love your cat finding story. No judgement here! I just brought home a chihuahua dog from the US (he was originally from Mexico) last week so I feel reeeaaally guilty but he's so fucking cute! Just glad to give him a loving home.ReplyDelete
you have an amazing blog!
This little cat is so very, very cute and it is fine and friendly that you provide a good shelter for that young fellow!
Everyday I visit your side and Kaylah´s - it just makes my day sunny and colourful!!!
ak --> greetings from east germany ! ! !
Cute new kitten. You should name her "America." That would be really awesome. Lol.ReplyDelete
Congrats! She is beautiful! I wouldn't have been able to leave her there in the store either. Every animal deserves to be loved & to have a good home, even if they have the misfortune to be born into a situation that puts them behind glass in a pet store.ReplyDelete
Love her! Congrats! And the hissing and cattiness (hehehe) will go away soon enough I'm sure. Good luck picking a name for the lil gal, I love the name Pippa.ReplyDelete
You should probably just namer her Diane. You love Twin Peaks and animals with human names make me smile. She is such a precious little lady!ReplyDelete
Oh my goodness! This little girl looks a lot my baby boy, Charlie. I got him a few months ago. She's precious!ReplyDelete
She is so incredibly sweet! I may be a little biased because she resembles my Seymore a bit too, especially the striped tail and forehead. I just love orange kitties. That's so sweet that Ivan fell in love with her. It melts my heart when men have a love for animals. I'm sure all the cats will get along soon. It'll probably help that she's female and young and won't cause much threat to the other two.ReplyDelete
Aww!! She is so sweet! <3 I can't wait to see what you name her! :)ReplyDelete
Oh man, Farva looks so PISSED! I can't wait til Georgia gets home and I can show her these pictures. She's going to flip her lid. Can't wait to meet this little lady myself and give her a good squish!ReplyDelete
Good job. You have officially killed me with cuteness overdose.ReplyDelete
I'm writing this comment from the grave.
Very cute! :) I recently got my first little kitten and have been asking for a second, haha, he needs someone to play with right?ReplyDelete
She is SO adorable!!!!ReplyDelete
OH MY GOSH SHE IS SO SMILEYReplyDelete
also it looks like she is wearing a v-neck shirt and it's cracking me uppp
She's so cute! Congratulations on your new baby! ♥ReplyDelete
Oh. My. GOODNESS. Those pictures are just too precious for words! Can't wait to see what you name her. I'm sure that it will be adorable. Congrats!ReplyDelete
oh man, that new addition of yours is something else... so cute! She makes me want to go snuggle with my kitty trudy. She kinda looks like a margo to me... can't wait to find out what you name her!ReplyDelete
what a cute little face she has! congrats on your new addition :)ReplyDelete
Aww she's the cutest! I had one just like her growing up named Tabitha Twitchit (from Beatrix Potter), but sadly my mom discovered her cat allergy 2 days in and we had to give her to another home :( Congrats on your new little friend!ReplyDelete
Your kitty is just precious! I can't wait to hear what you end up naming her. Are we allowed to suggest names? :)ReplyDelete
The CUTEST! I totally relate to your man being the difference between cat lady status and where you are at now, I'm the same way :)ReplyDelete
What a cute little lady! This photos of her peeking out are just too adorable! Congrats on your new little family member! ;)ReplyDelete
Oh my goodness, impulse pet. Great job! Sooo cute!ReplyDelete
eeeeep!! She is such a cutie!! Congrats on your new little furry bundle!! xoReplyDelete
She's so adorable! And photogenic too! She's such a cutie!! :3ReplyDelete
so, so adorable!ReplyDelete
I got my little boy cat on a whim as well :) I couldn't help it when he crawled out of his cage and laid right next to me and then fell asleep in my boyfriends arms :)ReplyDelete
Our roommates recently got a little kitten and they hated each other at first - I thought for sure one of them was going to claw the other to death, but now my cat, Darwin, is in love with her and waits for her outside their door!
cats are the best!

I'm a dog lover, I have 2. Sira and Alex, girl and boy, they are my soul, my life. They attached me all times and are very friendly with people, love to go for a walk a lot. Sira, was a gift from Santa at age 8, and Alex, I adopted him from the kennel of my city. But still like kittens! My boyfriend has a kitten that I gave him. Her name is Lucy and I rescued her from the streets. It's a little chubby and very tender girl.ReplyDelete
Usually I rescue many animals. Last Friday night, I rescued a puppy of 2 months that I had to take to the pound.I wanted him to stay, of course. Anyway, I'm not against buying an animal, but I like to adopt one that really needs and it will not have a good home.
Your cat is very beautiful and sweet! Hope to hear the name soon, kisses!
Suggest names: Izzy, Zoey, Lulu, Piper, Ely or maybe Bug? That sounds funny :)Delete
Not that you need more name suggestions, but I love the idea of naming her Erie, after where you got her. I named my dog Crookston, which is a town in Minnesota and where the shelter I got him from is. People always ask me about why I named him Crookston, and it's fun to have a reason to share the story other than crazy, puppy (or kitty) love!ReplyDelete
Oh my goodness she is such a cutie! Seriously grinning over here at the adorableness of these photos. Truthfully, I loved this whole little story. It really is so great when you meet a little kitty and you fall in love instantly. I hope someday my James will fall in love with another kitty too and we can all be besties.ReplyDelete
This post is seriously the best Elyica, she so precious!
Aaw, what a cutie!! :) I can't wait to hear what you name her...and see more pictures, of course! he he.ReplyDelete
oh I'm in love too!ReplyDelete
Oh my goodness, your American kitty is super cute! Fits right at home already :) I do hope you come up with an awesome name, be sure to tell us all when you do!ReplyDelete
Gah, had a silly dream last night featuring you and Kaylah and many other bloggers. I just remember us all being round Kaylah's house and she had to kiss all our hands to wish us all good luck for our future... I really do not know why but there we go! x
Such a pretty girl! Congrats! I love that she has an accent!ReplyDelete
OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG - I LOVE HER! I cannot wait to her what you name her. Multi-cat households ROCK!ReplyDelete
Hey, can I suggest a name?ReplyDelete
What about ´rabauke´, this is a german espression for someone constantly is into some kind of "good" trouble...check a translator for further information...
Or: "Mauz", "Miez", "Flaunschka", Mietzekatze" would be also very nice!?
However, I do make my mind about that!
Great blog, great girl with great cats!!!
I love yours cats, are very beautiful, and your fotographs too.
Your blog is amazing!!!!
I'am a spanish girl and I don't speack spanish very well, sorry.
Congratulation for your blog!!
sdajhs!! So beautiful! :) What a lovely addition to your family xReplyDelete
Silhouetted ♥ Blog
oh my goodness! we need a baby kitty. my heart still has not healed since having to give up our beloved chizu. i have banned pets in our house until we own our own home...my heart could not take giving up another pet.ReplyDelete
your new little lady is just the cutest thing ever. your story reminds me of when we bought our kitty. sometimes it's just meant to be.
She's so pretty! She reminds me of own little marmalade tabby that is yet to be named. And I swear, she may be the first photo booth kitty that I've ever seen. Points for that!ReplyDelete
She is so cute! I have a kitten named palmer she is 6 months old but they look like twins! Congrats on your new bundle of joy!!ReplyDelete
HAHAHA the photobooth pictures made me laugh out loud at work!!! She is adorable. We brought home a male kitten to befriend our one year old female back in May and they are just warming up to each other now. It can take a while but now they are BFFs and even clean each other now.ReplyDelete
Awwww ♥ My heart is melting :) Congrats on the addition! I don't think there is anything wrong with you buying a cat from a pet store, all animals need a good home. Rescues and those from pet stores which could be rescues. It's so nice to see such an animal lover! You are vegan, and respect animals and you have given some cats a lovely home! :) Can't wait to hear what you name her! :)ReplyDelete
My husband is incredibly allergic to cats, so I have to live vicariously through other cat lovers!! She's absolutely adorable, I miss those tiny little kitty paws! People are so judgemental. So quick to bash other people, my goodness. Being able to participate in respectful debate, and then agree to respect other people's opinions, even if we disagree with them, is a mark of a civilized society. And like you said, you were struck by kitty cupid, and who are we mere mortals to argue with that? :)ReplyDelete
Don't worry, she's young. She'll lose that accent in no time!ReplyDelete
such a coy little kitten! so beautifulReplyDelete
OH MY GOD!!! She is so pretty!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE HER!!!ReplyDelete
What a gorgeous kitty! I'm a big cat person too so I love it when I read about bloggers who love cats as much as I do.ReplyDelete
Such a sweet baby! She was obviously always meant to be a Canadian ;)ReplyDelete
Can't wait to hear what you name her ... I immediately thought of "Erie" (which is too obvious, I know) ha!
This kitty is just the cutest. She is such a pretty color!ReplyDelete
It's so fluffy :DReplyDelete
Omg, what a cutie!
I got to get a bigger house. I definitely need more cats :P
Oh that's such a cute kitty! I read somewhere that it's rare to have a ginger female kitty so you have a special one on your hands. Aren't your other two cats male though? Maybe that will be a problem in the future haha :DReplyDelete
Oh... She's a real cutie! (and a female ginger? wow!) She seems to love the camera! Great photos, by the way!ReplyDelete
She is so pretty and sweet!! Two of my family kitties were from pet stores. I support saving animals from shelters, stores, and the streets, so you definitely did the right thing and I'm so glad you were able to take her back to Canada! :) She's probably a bit older now but still, congrats congrats!!ReplyDelete
