Photos :: Glass Collection & a Birthday

I have always been a hoarder...excuse me...collector. When I went to Australia in high school I brought back basically everything I touched as a souvenir. And I really mean everything. I had a big container full of what was literally Australian garbage. Wrappers that looked different from the wrappers we have here, twigs, toilet paper that I used, etc. That was a test to make sure you were really reading this. I didn't bring back used toilet paper. Anyways, I have tamed my hoarding/collecting and I have become really good at not bringing things home that I don't need. I could go into detail but I have already steered pretty far away from the point of this post so I need to reel myself back in and get down to business.

When I started this collection I did kind of have a need for it. Ivan has a fairly extensive collection of beer glasses but we didn't have very many glasses to offer people drinks in that weren't teensy or plastic. I had spied these types of glasses hanging around the thrift store a few times but resisted the urge to snatch them up. They are glasses that have flowers on them representing the months of the year with a little description of the flower on the back.

Then in late March I saw the April glass and decided that I needed to start my collection. I feel like this is a good collection for me because it has a definite end point. Once I get all 12 glasses it will be complete! Here is my collection so far.

Excuse my chipped nail polish, how embarrassing!
And here is the back of the glass just to give you an idea of what they say.

I am probably too excited about  my glasses and I get really nerdy and like to use the glass that corresponds to the month that we are in. I'm having a problem right now because I haven't found August yet. What the heck am I supposed to drink out of? Another really dorky thing I like to do is when people come over, give them a drink in their birthday month glass. I am slightly terrified of breaking them because recently a certain cat who will remain nameless broke my awesome "Nag Nag Nag" glass that I didn't even get a photo of. Maybe once I have the entire set they will go on lock down and become display only glasses.

Have you seen these glasses before? If you are local you better not think they are cool and grab them at the thrift store before me!

And...more important than my little collection...today is my best friend Kaylah's birthday!
I wish, wish, wish that I was there to party with you Kaylah but we will see each other soon enough for some camping fun. Make sure you wish that lovely lady a happy birthday today. Happy birthday Kaylah! You is my friend.
(totally stole this photo from Kaylah's blog but it's me so is it really stealing?)

  4. I was smiling when reading your list of things you brought back from Australia but went deadpan when you mention used toilet paper...haha! I even tried to justify it before I continued reading, "Well maybe she means a square that was unused but on the roll she was using..." I love your posts.

  7. Those glasses are the cutest little concept! The fact that they have flower facts on the back kind of just takes the cake. :)

  8. Oh man, I spotted the FULL COLLECTION of those in a vintage shop some time last year, I was blown away by how pretty they are, and extremely stoked that the August (my birthday month) was Poppies, a flower I've been in love with and plan on getting tattooed to represent my mother. ANYWAY! I didn't have any money with me the day (why was I even there??) and I hope to find them, or at least some again some day soon. Even though now if I find anyway I will be tempted to send them your way!

    1. Oh sweet!!! I have been finding these ones not at vintage shops so they are not very expensive at all. I'm excited that August is poppies, I bet it is a pretty one!

    2. Yeah that was another bummer, they were probably over priced! You sure get some lucky finds in NON vintage shops! :)

  12. Those glasses are lovely! I've never seen those before.
I would definitely buy the April and May glasses if I came across them. =)

P.S. I have a selfish request...would you be so kind as to write out what the back of the April glass says and write it in a reply to my comment. It looks like the flowers are daisies and I'm curious what the words are. Please and thank you!

    1. Sure!

As sweet as new mown meadow hay; the Daisy flowers every field, waving and nodding its head in the wind as if it held a secret.

  17. My Grandmother has these glasses and I've had my eye on them forever! I have a few beautiful deep blue ones from her too that have frosty white flowers and butterflies on them. You'd never think a girl could ever get the feeling of wanting to hug a glass until you see these! She has such wonderful taste. If I visit, I always get juice in my September glass! Love that you're collecting them and will have to keep my eyes peeled while thrifting.

  19. Oh man, I am SO bad about collecting bits and pieces of..... everything. I always tell myself I will use it in an art project someday. Someday just hasn't come for many things yet.

You might appreciate this! For the second collage on this post, I walked around the area near my apartment for an hour, collected pieces of paper-y type items and came home and made a collage! http://unboredhands.blogspot.com/2011/12/collaging.html

  20. Yeah! Come to australia again, and stay with me! I'll let you cart all our garbage home in your suitcase.

Seriously though, those glasses are so cute. I have a nerdy habit of matching my coffee mug to my outfit. I have a fairly serious coffee mug collection.

I collected loads of rubbish when I went to America. Yep, that included food wrappers!

  24. I love these glasses! I have the January one for myself (as I'm a January baby) and got the February one for my mom. I kick myself for not buying almost an entire set of them last year at a yard sale. Ah, hindsight, you are so much clearer!
Your set looks so utterly charming all together!
