Thrift Find :: The Donnybrook

Way back in June, Ivan and I trekked up to Peterborough to spend some quality time with this lady & family as well as attend a really awesome thrift extravaganza that included an auction! Chantilly knows how to have a thrifty good time. Here are some of our finds.
Ivan and I just happened to walk by as these pretty chairs were being auctioned off. We scored two for a dollar.
I was very proud of how I got these glasses. I had my eye on them but they didn't get auctioned off until really late in the evening. The auctioner ended up auctioning off the entire contents of the table they were on as one thing. Some other lady won and there were a lot of different things on the table so I took a chance and asked if she would be willing to sell me the glasses. They were not what she wanted on the table so she very nicely sold them to me for a couple dollars.
I had my eye on this pretty melmac set for most of the evening but then Chantilly and Jesse mentioned they were going to bid on it so I let them have it. Little did I know they were buying it for me! So sweet of them! I love it and the colours match our other dishes really well.
At the end of the night there were a bunch of things that didn't sell and you can just pick them up, find someone who works there and make them an offer. I grabbed a couple paintings including these unfinished paint by numbers. I love looking at paint by numbers before they are painted. I think they are so neat! I might want to try finishing these ones but it will be tough to figure out what colours things should be so we'll see.

Ivan and I each got a bunch of books and records as well. Oh, and I got some really pretty (completed) paint by numbers that are now hanging in our "Black Lodge Room" in the basement. I'll show you those another time!

  5. Love these, I love how you scored the glasses! I was at a thrift store once looking through bags of fabric and mentioned to the two elderly women next to me that I wished I could mix and match from different bags, they told me if I buy a bag with something they want and vice versa maybe we can "work out a snag" in the parking lot. I ended up not buying anything but I wished I did just so I could have traded fabric with those hilarious women...

  8. Nice finds! The designs on the glasses remind me of the cells we looked at in science classes (not in the bad way). I believe in you to figure out the paint by numbers!

  9. I've never been to an auction and I always wonder if prices are cheap or like "antique shop" prices. Great finds!

  10. I love the chairs! And the paint by numbers are incredible. I used to love doing them. It's kind of curious how complete that first one is. It looks like the painter had one, maybe two colours to go, but never finished. I wonder why...

  11. I absolutely love doing paint by numbers. I like any repetitive type project- like latch hook rugs and puzzles. You should finish them up!

  13. Such cute finds! I love the pattern of chairs a whole lot! And those glasses are amazing too, but those Melmac plates! So swoon worthy, but of course I have such a Melmac problem. Glad you had fun!

  15. You could open the unfinished paint by numbers in photoshop and try to mess with the colors in there to get ones that would be close to accurate..if you're ever really bored one afternoon :-P

  17. AH paint by number! I used to be SO obsessed with those when I was a kid. I actually got one for Xmas this last year and tried it out...... NOT as much fun as it used to be, but still pretty rad.
