photo an hour :: cupcake contest

Yesterday Ivan and I went to visit our friend Alex in Toronto and eat some vegan cupcakes. I snapped a photo or two for each hour of our day.
9 am :: After exercising and breakfast I painted my nails to get the day started.
10 am :: Sleepy Farva and some pretty yarn that is slowly turning into a granny square blanket.
11 am :: Ivan playing guitar and Anakin doing some light tail cleaning.
12 pm :: On the road to Toronto we treated ourselves to coffee/hot chocolate.
1 pm :: Alex's dog Arthur is so adorable!
2 pm :: After waiting in a line that ended up growing super gigantic we got to sample some vegan cupcakes/baked goods.
3 pm :: After the sampling we got to rate how yummy we thought the goodies were.
4 pm :: After overloading on sugar we decided to eat some real food and grabbed dinner at Hogtown Vegan. So delicious.
5 pm :: Walking back to Alex's place.
6 pm :: A slightly terrifying, slightly hilarious Barbie display inside a window.

We had a really great day but now we are totally on a sugar detox! It was so yummy but I think we really over did it yesterday. However, I may make an exception for my favourite thing from the bake off...The Lumberjack donut from Bunners

Today we are doing a few things around the house and maybe finally working on our wedding thank you cards. Have a great Sunday!

  2. That mac and "cheese" from Hogtown Vegan looks delicious!! Do you know if it was a cashew concoction, or something else? I find that "cheese" sauce is the hardest vegan-thing to make at home. Mine always too thick or too nutty or too salty... ick.

    1. I'm actually not sure at all what the cheese sauce was. I know you can make a yummy one out of nutritional yeast. This could have been that.

  4. I love the idea of a photo from every hour of the day. It's a great way to document a day full of adventure--especially while I'm abroad. I'm definitely going to try this soon.

  8. I am in the midst of doing my first photo an hour today. I'm just at home, but we have a superbowl party happening later.
Which cupcakery did you go to in Toronto? I'd love to try it out - maybe that'll be a Valentine's day date :)
And yes, you should wear all red. I would wear all pink, but come to think of it, I'm not sure I own any...

    1. It was actually a competition held at a hall of some sort. There were bakeries from Toronto and surrounding areas. My favourite thing came from Bunners though. I have never been to that bakery but I need to try it now!

    1. It was a project where they collected discarded Barbies and gave them new life by making a display in this window. There was a kind of Barbie Christmas tree and also Barbies in suggestive positions in martini glasses!

  15. Hogtown vegan is soooooo good for vegan junk food/fast food! It's such a great substitute for traditional burgers and chicken fingers. I went there a few months ago and had the non-chicken burger...could not stop thinking about it!!!! your mac n cheese looks amazing!

    I'm drooling...

  16. That Barbie display might be the scariest thing this side of Halloween. Yikes! Love all the cat goodness, and your delicious looking dinner! And everyone thinks vegans and vegetarians don't eat well... Epic fail.

  17. Elycia, I just found your blog through Pie N' the Sky (which I also just recently encountered) and the reason I went to your homepage was because of your spelling - "colour"! Hurray! A Canadian! I've found it tough to find Canadian blogs I like (and it's frustrating to read about someone's spring preparations when there's two feet of snow out my door) so you're definitely on my go to list now! I think you're so great and I love your style :)

  21. It seems darn near impossible to get vegan cupcakes in Hamilton. Unless they are specially ordered ahead of time. Apparently there is a new cupcake place in Dundas that has them though :) I'll have to hit up Hogtown neaxt time I go to TO (which isn't often because I hate driving there).

    1. Oh there is one in Dundas? That's awesome, I will have to look in to that. Cake and Loaf on Dundurn in Hamilton always has some kind of vegan treat, either cupcakes, brownies or date bars. You can always check in with them on twitter too to see what they have that day!

    2. I have yet to go to Cake and Loaf-but will make a point of visiting there! The one in Dundas is near the old shopper's downtown on King St. I only just noticed it last week.

    1. My friends own Cake and Loaf Bakery and they make the yummiest espresso brownies! I love them. Hmmm, my favourite thing of the day was actually not a cupcake, it was a donut. It was a maple donut with fake bacon and something that tasted a bit cheesy and a bit spicy. It was amazing!!

  26. That vegan dinner looks amazing! Is that crispy tofu? Toronto is high on my list of cities I want to visit- it looks amazing!

    ReplyDelete

    1. It is some kind of imitation chicken thing. Not exactly tofu but soy based. Bad explanation! haha! You should totally visit Toronto!
