just reminiscing

Yesterday I spent a good majority of the afternoon tidying up my blog labels so that they could be displayed in some sort of organized manner over in my left sidebar. Doing this involved revisiting a lot of early blog posts which induced quite a few shakes of my head (both up & down and side to side), rolls of my eyes and laughs of my mouth. That last one didn't really work but you get me, right?
It was so interesting to look back at old posts and see how I have evolved as a blogger and changed as a person over these last two years. Not totally changed, just little things. It was fun to remember small details that I forgot and kind of relive some moments from my past. Although sometimes is was slightly embarrassing to look at, it was mostly just entertaining and motivating. It makes me wonder where my blog will be in a few years and how I will feel when I look back at these posts.

Looking back also reminded me that getting to where I am today in terms of my writing style, my photos, the types of things I blog about was a process. It definitely didn't happen instantly and it was really neat looking back at my journey.

Some especially cool things I enjoyed looking at were my first video & my first outfit post.
I also realized that I miss my light pink hair like crazy!
I know I said I was finished with bleaching but come on! I think I need this hair again. I promise I won't try to get it from black to pink by myself. ;)

Looking through my old blog posts reminded me of another reason why I love blogging. I am not good at keeping a journal so this blog is the way I am going to remember things that were going on in my life at certain times. How cool is that?

Have you taken some time to look back at some of your first posts? How do you feel about your blog journey? If you are a new blogger, I promise it just gets more fun as you go along!

PS. Can you believe it is March 1st already?! If you haven't been there already I highly recommend that you check out My Girl Thursday this morning. Ah! I've already said too much!

  2. I agree about the journal thing, having a blog is like being able to look back at the best moments for your past rather than every mundane thing! (you should totes go back to pink too it looks so cute!!) xo

  3. I love all the phases your hair has been through. I am currently thinking of dying it a fun color :)
blogging has been fun and when I look back, it's interesting to see the things that I was doing.

  4. Interested note about the journal. I'm the same way. I love the idea of journaling, I think they're pretty, but... I can't seem to maintain one to save my life. Literally a few days will get jotted down, and then it just becomes another empty journal I my shelf. A little depressing, actually. ;) But I don't seem to have as much trouble maintaining a blog. I wonder why? Hopefully I can keep it up, and it doesn't end up another empty journal.

  6. I love reading old posts on my blog! I'm rubbish at keeping a journal, so looking back on my old blog posts is always so interesting. I find so many things that I completely forgot about. It's just so, so interesting. :D

And as lovely as your pink hair is, I have to say I love the color it is now. I'm a total sucker for dark hair. (Which is pretty obvious by the fact that I die mine darker.) It just looks so good with bold make up!

  8. Thanks for the encouraging words. I am a new blogger and days go by between posts because I can't always think of something worthy. I do hope it will get better and that I'll become more fluid as time goes on. Thanks!

  12. I've gone from black to white-ish (in order to become a redhead) by myself and MERCY! So horrible. :) Always nicer to let someone else do the dirty work for you.

  14. I did this same thing last year. It was so surreal (and totally embarrassing) to look through older posts...kinda wanted to delete a few, haha.

I absolutely ADORED your pink hair. Just sayin'. :)

  15. Your pink hair was so pretty!! Love the pale colour! I'm still new to blogging, so I don't have anything to laugh at quite yet (I'm sure I'll be laughing at my current posts a couple years from now though!)

  16. Yes! Your light pink hair was the best! You're the reason I bleached mine! I am thinking of doing part of my hair in fun, pastel colors. :) I haven't written much in my blog, in the past, but I have had it since 2006. I've recently started blogging again, because of you. :)

  18. Hey Elycia! I loved your light blonde/white hair! In fact, I've been trying to get mine to the ~right~ shade since 2009 (and I've had other colors in between too!) I was wondering how you kept it so ~white/light blonde~? Because I will bleach my roots and put a little bit all over and then I'll put this manic panic stuff (violet something? it's actually a toner, but the "how-to" I read said to use it) and then it'll be the perfect shade (like yours) for like two days. I understand it's a toner, but the lady said it would stay for at least a week. so I was just wondering what you did to your hair to keep it that shade?! :)

    1. I used to use a purple tinted shampoo a few times a week to keep it really white. I forget the actual brand I used (I got it from my salon). I think you can get other brands at drugstores though. I would highly recommend purple shampoo for keeping your hair white. Just don't use it too often or your hair will start to look grey!

    2. Also, Ashley, if you have a Beauty supply store near you that sells Wella Color charm, try T18 toner. (used to be called white lady). I find it really helps tone down gold tones. HTH! Sorry to just jump in! :)

  19. I've just started my first ever blog, and it's fun, challenging and scary, all at once! And I started mine after feeling inspired by you and Kaylah, so thanks (I think!) I am having fun so far, and will be trying an outfit shoot soon... that is the MOST scary! This weekend I'll be tidying up my blog's code :( I managed to much it already! Thanks for the inspiring post :)

  20. I love looking back at my old blogs for exactly that reason! Remembering the journey, and all the little things that you forget. At the beginning of this year I was really down on myself because I felt like I didn't do anything last year. And then I looked at my blogs from 2011, and realised I'd actually done heaps of things!

  21. it's awesome as a blog reader to see the development too, and how much confidence your blog is filled with now. Does that make sense?

Im missing my coloured hair so bad, but the black i put over it has almost grown out.

I want to try an outfit post myself but am worried bout shooting the photos! lol. Will try, nothing else for it!

    1. aw thank you! I used to censor myself more because I was nervous about offending people but I think now more people just know I'm a goof so I feel more confident and comfortable.

Outfit posts are really fun! I would recommend getting a remote. It is so much easier for me to take my own photos.

  22. I just started my blog in January and so far, it's tough to try to come up with things to post about, and to not just want to censor myself all the time. A friend suggested just blogging about one topic if I actually want people to read it, but I really just want to write about everything that makes me happy. Seeing blogs like yours, where you can really tell you are so passionate about the things you write about, is inspiring to me. I love the what I wore posts so much (your outfits are -always- adorable and I love your hair in all it's manifestations!) and hope to figure out a way to do some myself without a good camera!

  23. I love your blog SO. MUCH. and I wish I could have been a follower from the very beginning. I do agree 100% that you "grow" with blogging. I'm sure it's happened, however most of us don't start out as just an amazing blogger. A lot of work and love is involved. ♥

  24. hahaha I don't know if you took a lot at the photos I posted of me the other day... but oh man, I don't know how people take outfit photos. Sometimes I wish I could clone myself to take my own photos, hahah because those ones I took are pretty funny.

I haven't really gone back and read my old blog posts over, I should do that sometime. Sounds fun. & interesting. And maybe embarrassing, ha!

  25. Oh gosh, I hope I can keep up with my blog as you have. What a treat it will be to go back and revisit everything. I'm sure I will make myself laugh in the "what was I thinking/doing/talking about?" kind of way. Ah, I can't wait!

  27. The pink hair was super cute, but I think you should stick with keeping your hair healthy and dark. If you want some colour, get some extensions! then, you can have all the colours your heart could ever desire :)
