What I Did :: It's Your Festival

On Saturday evening Ivan and I ventured into Gage Park to check out It's Your Festival. I like going to the Gage Park festivals in the summer to walk around and check things out but I never like to stay too long. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't very busy so we had a really nice time walking around and enjoying the beautiful weather. Here are some things that we saw.

On our way to the park we saw this cute sign and on the way back to the car a girl was selling fruit punch. This girl was determined to sell her juice and wanted to be very sure that everyone knew it was only 50 cents. It was so cute to hear her yelling it over and over again down the street.

The colour of the bandshell is so awesome.

One of our all time favourite Indian restaurants had a booth at the festival so we had a samosa. How could we not? They are so delicious.

While we were eating we watched this craziness and I almost freaked out just thinking about being inside one of those things.

I really felt like some kind of ice treat so we got sno-cones. Excuse me, let me correct myself, we got the worst sno-cones in the history of the world. Ivan was saying that his had no flavour and then he tasted mine and it had even less. So I guess I got an ice treat. A big lump of ice in a paper cone.

We moved quickly away from Mr. Fajita. Vegetarians beware...you may be captured and served on a pita.

Checking out the bike trails map. I actually couldn't read it at all, they need some new plastic.

Today I am working on finishing up a whole bunch of stuff for the week. I also want to take a nice long bike ride. On Friday I went biking with my dad and we figured out a bunch of routes right near here. I'm really looking forward to spending a lot of time on my bike the rest of the summer!

  1. Looks like so much fun! I love festivals. I wish our area had more. I went to our multicultural festival a few weeks ago and it was so much fun! So many great foods and music! I wish it never ended.

  2. I love these photos Elycia! There's something about the light or colour in them that captures that dry summer evening where you want to linger outside for a just a second longer. Really pretty.

Teehee I like the 'vegetarian on pita' capture as well! It's risky business, clearly!

  3. I'm with you, I love to give festivals a look-see, but I'm not too in to lingering-- looks like it was a fun one {'cept for the sno-cone fail of course}!

    1. Yeah, it gets too stressful when it is too busy but we must have went at a good time because it wasn't bad at all. Yes those are spools of thread!

  6. I've got to admit, the niagara region does have some sweet festivals in the summer, they're rather bringing me around on this place! Are you guys going to the veg*an/raw festival in August? I know I'll be there with bells on, normally there's nothing for vegetarians to eat in wine country!! I may have to stockpile, haha!

    2. Rawstock niagara! Besides the obviously very original name I think it sounds pretty neat! Plus it's a short walk from my house, so, you can't really beat that!

  9. Hi Elycia! I just wanted to say that I love your blog. There are so many amazing cycling paths in and around Hamilton. Me and a group of friends rode our bikes from Toronto to Hamilton a couple of weeks ago all along the waterfront. It's a beautiful ride!

  18. Mr Fajita is scary, I'm automatically suspicious of any business that uses Jokerman for their logo!

  21. I used to live near there and always walk to the festivals every summer. I'm sad they moved festival of friends. Did you see my cousin perform? Her name is Kim Koren-her daughter also performs too (Dawn and Marra). I usually end of eying those hot mini donuts or elephant ears at those things. :)

  24. It's been so many years since I've attended It's Your Festival. Each year we plan to go and each year we end up at the cottage for the long weekend instead. I'm glad you had fun! The band shell is gorgeous and I so want to get inside of one of those floaty balls! ♥

  25. MMmmmm, samosas. When I was at uni, I used to visit the fab on-campus Indian restaurant every Tuesday for fresh vegetable samosas. Your picture bought that memory roaring back and now I'm craving one so badly!

  26. Oh I haven't been to It's Your Festival or Festival of Friends in a couple of years. I'm going to Festival of Friends next month though to see the B-52s. I'm pretty darn excited!

  27. OK, I realize this is super late but you HAVE TO try a Sweet Ice Snow Cone. They will forever redeemer snow cones for you! They are everywhere in Hamilton these days. I'm partial because they're my pals, but seriously. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dFYQIzEC3M
